“My artwork and studio practice has evolved over the years because of my love of using paint to affect the canvas, using contrasting colors and applying unique finishes to my paintings. In my paintings I am looking for ways to create depth and line to enhance the visual depth I am seeking. 

I started abstract painting a few years ago, by painting what I had imagined an abstract painting would look like in a 1960’s comic book.

My interest in American Culture, including actual history, myth, Hollywood and allegorical subjects is the inspiration for my work. My work is an exploration for the means of communicating with the eternal human spirit. For me painting is like holding life in your hand and watching it drip through your fingers.”

Matt Founded Exploding Sky Worldwide in 1990 with his Identical twin brother and artist, Mark Enger on New York’s Lower East Side. The Enger Brothers began experimenting with their own unique Fine Art paintings, Drawings and Installations as well as Limited Edition Apparel; T-shirts, jackets and art objects. Exploding Sky quickly became known throughout the Art and Rock World. Artists, Collectors, Actors and Musicians spread the Enger brother’s images from their Lower East Side headquarters to the world.

Mark and Matt began collaborating through silkscreen printing with Local Artists. Donald Baechelor, Keith Harring , Kiki Smith and others as well as fashion designers Catherine Melandrino, Rebecca Dannenberg and Spooky.

Establishing a cult following Mr. Enger has shown his paintings since 1990 regularly in a variety of individual settings, as well as Downtown Venues such as The Universal Limited Art Editions Gallery, Max Fish, Jack Tilton Gallery, Amy Lee Projects,  Christopher Henry Gallery and the Brian Leo Projects Space.
