“Fort Apache” by Matt and Mark Enger at The State of Art Gallery in Brooklyn.
The Enger Brothers are Identical twins raised in Oklahoma, Asia and Europe.
This installation is a lament for the disenfranchised plight of the rightful heirs
to this land. They’ve wallpapered the space with silk screened Western theme
icons and hung their rather beautifully brutal canvases atop. A customized
mini-bike and a few other relics of misspent Southwestern youth complete
this pop requiem. The notorious Engers are already downtown celebrities
because of their various artistic and musical activities as well as their associations with
Robert Rauschenberg and dot commer Josh Harris.
